Random Thoughts #20

Wow...this segment has been coming monthly for a long time...That's certainly better than most comic book series (Yes, I'm looking at you All-Star Batman!!!). Well, I'm in a hotel listening to some relatives talk about politics...I think it's time for a couple of random thoughts.

Grad School
Well, it's done. The paper topped out at about 3,700 words, 28 references, and three more gray hairs. Now, I'm in proofread mode. I gotta turn it in by tomorrow night, but I may turn it in tomorrow morning. instead. Here I am hoping and praying for at least a decent grade. After that, I have a group project and books to read.

Women...
....No comment.

"And now, a taste of things to come."
Yeah, I'm quoting Mortal Kombat. Well, it's time for something different and new. I don't know what yet, but it'll be something good. It could be something scifi. It could be music-related. It may even involve another group of mutants. The only difference about these guys is that they live in a sewer.

Well, I'm out. Peace and God Bless...and Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!

Graphic Novels - Superman: Earth One Vol. 1

Well, in the midst of writing a 3000+ word paper, one must take a break. For some reason, I decided to write even more words to pass the time. Yeah, it’s crazy, I know. For the final post in Superman Month(s), I have decided to look at the somewhat controversial (?) graphic novel Superman: Earth One. I bought this book at a Borders’ store for 10 bucks, so you can tell that I really wanted this book. I thought about talking about it last year but decided to hold it off till now. Also, the second volume has FINALLY came out, so it's a good time to talk about this.

The Earth One line is kinda DC’s second attempt at rivaling Marvel’s Ultimate line. It takes the most popular heroes and updates their origins. Top talent, and I mean “Top!” is on these books. For the Batman book, it was Geoff Johns (aka the God of DC) and Gary Frank. For Superman, it is J. Michael Straczynscki (aka JMS) and Shane Davis. JMS is known for many things. From Babylon 5 and Thor to the walking Superman and the devil-dealing Spider-Man (not his decision by the way), JMS has done a lot of good and bad. I’ve seen Shane Davis on a few books and he’s pretty good. So with all of that in mind, let’s get to it.

Random Thoughts #19

Well, since it was a productive day, I thought I might end it with a couple of random thoughts.

Superman Month(s)
Well, it's the end of SUperman Month. That was one heck of a long month! The whole battle was nuts. It actually took three months to do all of this since I started writing stuff in August. That being said, I'm happy with how it turned out. Will I ever do this again? Yeah, but it won't take two frakkin' months  to finish it! I do have one more Superman post to finish and then the month (or months) will be over. I am definitely going on a break after all of this...

Grad School
"Now the fun begins." I have officially started on my research paper for my capstone class. The paper is on security violations in the workplace. I have about 2 pages written and am hoping to be done this weekend. The whole paper isn't actually due till December, but our teacher wants to do an assessment on our paper to see if we're on the right track. Here's hoping I'm on the right track. I also have the other two classes do deal with, so I'm pretty busy. And then there's my full-time job...Dang, now all I need is a girlfriend and that'll fill the "BUSY" quota.

Movies
A while back I said I was going to give a brief review of all of the movies I saw this summer. Well, here it is:

  • The Avengers - As I said before, "'Nuff said." This movie was awesome!!!
  • The Dark Knight Rises - This was good. On how it stacks up against the other two, I have no clue yet.
  • Prometheus - This looked really interesting and started out well, but it got weird towards the middle and kept going on with the weirdness. I definitely think someone was right in naming this movie "Don't Touch That!"
  • The Expendables 2 - This...was pretty epic. All of my favorite action heroes were in it and it ruled.
  • Snow White and the Huntsman - Yes, I saw this. I saw it with a friend. It was okay. Hemsworth was awesome, Theron was wickedly evil, and Stewart was bland but cute (Did I just say that?).
  • Looper - The movie had a great premise and reminded me a lot of The Terminator. It does drag in the middle, but it picks back up towards the end.
Now, there were some movies I wanted to see but just didn't like ASM and MIB3. I'll probably talk about those later.

Women
...yeah, I got nothing to say tonight about them.

.........................................................................................

Well, I need sleep, so Peace and God Bless. Watch out for a somewhat detailed look at that thing JMS wrote about Superman two years ago.

Battle of the Super-Origins: The Story/Conclusion

Well, after two freakin’ months, I’ve gotten to the end of this long and arduous battle. It didn’t go too bad. I know I will definitely want to do something like this again I have a few ideas on what things could get matched up against.  When they’ll come out, I don’t know. I got a 3,000+ paper work on.  I do know that it’s not going to take two months to get through it!
Before I start the final round, here a few interesting facts on these writers:
  • All have worked on a Justice League comic of sorts.
  • All have done a run on a Superman comic book (except Waid. Come on DC!!!!)
  • Waid, Morrision, and Johns worked on the mini-series 52.
  • All of these guys at one time or another did work with Marvel.
  • Morrison and Byrne are known for having worked on an X-Men book.
  • Waid and Johns are known for working on The Flash.
Well, as Batman and Superman tend to say in every DC animated movie, “it ends tonight!”
