Graphic Novels - Infinite Crisis: Part Three - Divine Intervention

Hey, hey, hey! It’s me again, going through the mega event Infinite Crisis. It’s Sunday the 6th, and I had nothing better to do. It’s cold and wet outside, so I won’t be doing a lot. The creative team is still the same from issue 1. George Perez does one page for this issue though. The covers are well done, with Wonder Woman and the Amazons fighting OMACs and Supes-2 holding out a hand to Batman in the Batcave while there are images of Earth-2 in the background. I like the Lee version better because well…it really fits with what happens in the issue, I guess. So let’s get it started!

Issue 3We start out in San Diego where Aquaman fights to keep his city safe from an attack by the Society and a huge storm. From what I can tell, Fishman is doing somewhat well. Meanwhile, in Atlantis, Tempest (formerly known as Aqualad) and the rest of the magic-users try to help San Diego with their powers. Suddenly, a huge hand flattens the city (Not Kidding). It’s The Spectre (who’s still on that “DESTROY MAGIC” drug), and he has had his vengeance. Plus, he’s even dressed for the occasion!

Spectre: I will stand here and pose in my green speedo! Ha ha ha!!

The battle for Paradise Island continues, as scores of OMACs assault the island. It looks like the OMACs are also recording what they are seeing the Amazons do. Wonder Woman is told that the newly-completed Purple Death Ray (I’m not kidding on that name) is operational and the fight continues on.

In his cave, Batman talks to Brother Eye, telling him to stop attacking the Amazons. Brother Eye tells him no and that it will do as Batman programmed it to do. When the screen goes blank, Batman falls to his knees and pretty much breaks down. It seems that all he has done with Brother Eye has blown up in his face: Ted Kord is dead, Wonder Woman is a murderer, and the Amazons are being attacked. As he is on his knees, Batman has flashbacks of turmoil in his life and he wishes he could start all over. A voice from out of nowhere tells him that he can start over, and the voice of turns out to be Supes-2 as he steps out.

No, Batman. You can't get a reboot like Superman did.

At the hidden fortress in the Arctic, Power Girl sits with Lois-2, when Alex-3 tells her that she needs some rest. When she leaves, Prime asks Power Girl if she intends to let Lois die. She tells him that she needs to know what will happen to everyone on her Earth first. Prime becomes a bit mad, stating that this world is bad. He then talks about Conner, saying that he has everything good going for him (Parents, Cassie, and Friends) and he still won’t help them now. He tells her it’s not fair because he and the rest risked everything to save the universe. He then gives Kara Lois' notes, which were written since they been in the hidden fortress, and Kara flies away.

In Texas, the Shadowpact arrives to collect fragments from the explosion of the Rock of Eternity. By the way, I must say that the team of supernatural folk looks good. They have a talking chimp for crying out loud! Anyway, suddenly a building cracks in half and begins to fall. Superman (with music playing) soars in, grabs the building, and repairs it with his heat vision. He tells the Shadowpact to keep up the good work and that he needs to help in California. As all of this is going on, a kid named Jamie finds Blue Beetle's scarab lying on the ground.

This might just be like the coolest team ever!

We then shift to the Polaris Galaxy, where the war in space is still going on. Donna Troy and friends finally arrive at the rift. Firestorm is working to put out a fire when he suddenly hears the voice of Martin Stein in his head. He is even more confused when the fire elemental form of Firestorm goes streaking by (…I am too. I thought there was only one). Animal Man then starts using the power of some sort of animal that shoots lightning out of its eyes (Oh Yeah!!....I guess.).

One wonders what animal can shoot lightning out of its eyes. ....Platypus, perhaps?

In Central City, Wally West is at home with his wife, watching his newborn twins sleep as violent images of the Amazons are being shown on TV. What’s happening is that Brother Eye is showing the images from the fight on TV, which is putting the Amazonians in a bad place rep-wise. When the news reports of tornados coming down in Kansas, he puts on his suit and heads out as the Flash to help save lives.

Back in the cave, Supes-2 explains Earth-2 to Batman. He tells Batman that it was a world of hope. The heroes there made mistakes, but it wasn’t this out of hand. He tells him that his Earth-2 counterpart actually had a life outside of Batman. He was married to Selina Kyle (Catwoman) and had a daughter. Superman tells him how the E2 Batman died, and that it may have precipitated the end of Earth-2. Superman tells Bruce that if he comes with him, he will always be at his side. I also have to say that these next two panels are the weirdest and funniest PDAs I have seen in my life.

Well, looks like I have found my random pic for next month!

On Paradise Island, the battle continues as more OMACs keep coming. Diana suddenly realizes that Brother Eye is basically screwing with them and tells the Amazons to stop fighting. Brother Eye is showing the world that the Amazons are nothing but vicious warriors. This may lead to Paradise Island getting attacked by probably every powerhouse country in the world. She tells her sisters that they must leave man’s world. Hearing her words, the gods open up a portal for the island. When her sisters realize that Diana isn't coming with them, they tell her that she may never be able to find them. She tells them that her destiny was never on the island though. She embraces a couple of close friends and flies off the island. She watches as Paradise Island disappears below her, leaving her the only Amazon in the world.

Lex Luthor, the one in the battle armor, listens on a message a message from Black Adam's team, telling the other Lex Luthor that they can't find their target Mary Marvel. Nicely-dressed Luthor tells him that he still needs one of Shazam's 'children' to run the machine. The other villains then suddenly betray Adam (who’s part of the Marvel Family), subduing him. The screen goes black and Luthor turns around to find battle armor Luthor facing him. Battle armor Luthor demands to know this fraud really is, but instead he falls to the floor with headaches. ND Luthor tells him that it’s probably his theta brainwaves that are causing the problem (Eh?). Battle armor Luthor blasts the other, but when the smoke clears ND Luthor is still standing there unfazed by the blast. ND Luthor blasts back with his own bolt of energy.

Dang right, I'm better! I have a suit, a protfolio, and some stock from Wal-Mart!!!

At the Batcave, Supes-2 tells Batman that he's offering him the chance to start over; that none of this is his fault. Batman disagrees. Batman asks about everyone on the current Earth, and Superman tells him that they'll be folded into the new world. This means that they will die, but Supes-2 tells him that they will be changed; better than what they are. Then Bruce asks about Dick Grayson, if he is a better man on Earth-2 than on this Earth. Supes-2, who just stated that he never lies, thinks for a moment, and then tells him no. Batman says he didn't think so as he confronts Supes-2 with the Kryptonite ring. He refuses to let him and the others wipe this Earth out. Supes-2, unfazed by this Earth’s Kryptonite, just tells him that the ring represents the paranoia of this world, before destroying it with heat vision. Supes-2 tells Bruce that it would have been nice to have the world's finest heroes together again as he flies off into the night.

At the….hidden fortress (?), The Luthors continue to fight, until Battle armor Luthor destroys ND Luthor’s computers His disguise vanishes, and Luthor demands to know who he is. Alexander Luthor (What?) stands before him. Suddenly, someone rips Lex out of his Battle armor. Alex tells the attacker to kill Lex, but Lex teleports away at the last moment.

In the Arctic, Power Girl reads Lois-2’s notes and is crying. She returns to the hidden fortress, saying that they and the heroes of this Earth need to work together and find a way to save both Earths. Alone, she wanders further into this fortress and finds a gigantic tower, with the kidnapped heroes (J’onn, Ray, Black Adam, and others) being strapped to it. She flies up to J'onn and asks who did this, when a blur suddenly knocks her out. While all of this is going on, Batman is in the Batcave and he finally sees what happened to J’onn on the Watchtower. Bruce sees Prime (now, I’ll be calling him PRIME) attacking J'onn, just as Alex-3 and PRIME stand above Power Girl and say that they will make her and Supes-2 help achieve their goals even if they have to force them.

What could they really say here in these panels?

Prime: You know, she does have big...
Alex-3: Enough! I get the picture.

Batman: Oh no, not another Kryptonian. Three's enough, DC!
…. …. …. …. …. … …. …. … …..

So, here is the end of another good issue of Infinite Crisis. The writing and the art are both good. The only thing I didn’t like would probably be that there wasn’t no cowbell (yeah, I’m joking.). This time, both Batman and Wonder Woman get a little of time to sort out their problems. Batman gets tempted to join Supes-2 on his quest to bring back Earth-2 and start over, but he declines. Bruce wants to accept responsibility for what’s happened and try to fix it without, you know, messing with the space and time.

Diana finally understands what Clark and Bruce see now, and she does not like it. We get a little here and there about the space thing and Blue Beetle’s Scarab, but the real shocker of this issue is Alex-3 and PRIME (I have to do it in caps now. Sorry.). I have to admit, it’s a shock. You don’t see it coming (well, those blue eyes are a hint), and when it happens, it leaves you with a lot of questions. I know that there are some that hate that these two heroes are now villains. I’m not one of those people. Why? That’s something you will find out next time when I get into Issue four. My next post will instead focus on our favorite teen superhero team, the Teen Titans, as they go through this Crisis of Infinite Proportions.

NEXT TIME: A KISS FROM ----- TO --- (?), BROTHER BLOOD (boo), AND JASON TODD…..WAIT. HE’S BACK NOW? WTFC?
