Movie Talk - The Rush Hour Movies

Well, I’ve gotten to the final post for this themed month. I knew that I was planning on watching some Jackie Chan movies, but I didn’t know where else to go. Suddenly, Chris Tucker busted into the room, talked with that voice of his for a few minutes, and threw the Rush Hour Trilogy into my face. Okay, that actually didn’t happen, but that sounds better than me remembering that I haven’t talked about these movies yet!

The first Rush Hour movie is what probably made me aware of Jackie Chan. It was either that or Rumble in the Bronx. It also made me aware of Chris Tucker who I really wasn’t watching when I was young. Rush Hour was released in 1998, Rush Hour 2 came out in 2001, and Rush Hour 3 was released after a six-year wait in 2007. Al three of them were directed by Brett Ratner and were a financial success. I only saw them at home when they were released on video/DVD. It’s a series that I’ve been meaning to get back to. So, do these movies hold up now in 2020? Well… yay and nay.

Movie Talk - More Jackie Chan Movies

Next up is a return to Jackie Chan, the martial arts actor who by the grace of God is still alive. Seriously, look up some of the stunts that didn’t go well! The guy’s broken almost every bone in his body. I don’t know how he's still here!

Last year, I looked at a few movies from his career. This time, I’m going to do the same, but three of them are a part of a series. First up is the 1973 movie, Police Woman. Then, I got the Police Story movies. These movies were basically done in the same vein as 1985’s The Protector, one of the movies I talked about last year. Chan wasn’t happy with that movie and I can’t blame him because I wasn’t happy with it either. So, he decided to redo the concept with Police Story in 1985. It spawned a few sequels, but I’m only looking at Police Story 2 (1988) and Police Story 3: Supercop (1991/1996). He also directed the first two Police Story movies.

Movie Talk - Jackie Chan

Next up, I’m looking at someone I’ve barely talked about here: Chan Kong-sang. For those who don’t know, his professional name is Jackie Chan. I think it’s safe to say that Chan’s one of the best actors to come from China. The guy’s done a lot in 50 years, so I obviously haven’t seen all of his filmography. The first I ever heard of him was a trailer for Rumble in The Bronx. Since then, I seen a lot more of his American-made and Chinese-made films.

I think one reason I’ve barely talked about him here is because there are so many movies. I’ve only mentioned him in a post and talked about his Bruceploitation movie, New Fist of Fury. So, I might as well continue from there since it did get better… I think. Today, I got five movies. I was planning on doing a movie from each decade, but it looks like I’m only making it to the 90’s today. Someone had gotten my dad a DVD set with some of Chan’s movies there. I also own The Legend of Drunken Master, so I tried to watch some over the last few days.

Favorites - Nine Favorite Fight Scenes from Martial Arts Movies

Hey, all. Well, it’s sort of been a good month. Other than some weirdness here and there, I had fun doing this themed month again. I finally got to talk about some things that have been a long time coming. Of course, Butt-kicking month will be back next year. Last year, I ended it on my favorite Bruce Lee fights. This time, I’m just going to talk about nine of my favorite fights scenes in movies. It’s not going to be in order or anything like that.

I originally wrote a lot of this stuff a couple years ago. I was going to post it at the end of my first Martial Arts Month, but I decided to do something else. As I said before, these are just some of my favorites. It’s not a definitive list of the best since a couple of these wouldn’t be on that list. You’ll see ones I’ve talked about before and some I haven’t gotten to yet on the blog. I will also limit it to one martial arts actor or series of movies. I may have to cheat with one you'll see.
