Movie Talk - The Ghostbusters Franchise

Hmm... Now that's one way to end a movie! Bravo!

Well, the Olympics are finally over. I can now stop laughing at Ashley Wagner’s expressions... On second thought, never mind. We also lost Harold Ramis this week and that was pretty shocking. While he’s known for things like Groundhog Day, Stripes, and Caddyshack, I’ll always remember him for Ghostbusters. I thought this would be a nice time to finally look at those movies. I was going to look at them one day anyway, so I might as well do it now before the blockbuster season starts. I’ll also talk about the 2009 video game since it is probably the closest thing we’ll ever get to a Ghostbusters 3.

I don’t remember what introduced me to the Ghostbusters. It was either the animated TV show or Ghostbusters 2 which were around at the time. I didn’t see the first movie until I was in 4th grade. Now that was something. Let’s just say that I try to see it whenever I can. I eventually added the two movies to my collection a few years ago. As for the game, I got it when I got my first PS3. I didn’t even bother playing the PS2 version. It took a while, but I eventually beat it.

Music Retrospective - Michael Jackson: Off the Wall

Well, it's been a long time since I've done this. Here I go again... I hope my sister doesn't get me for this.

Now, it's time finally look at another artist for this retrospective: Michael Jackson. This segment actually exists partly because of Jackson and the Police. I'm a fan of them both and I thought it would be cool to look at the albums they made. My journey with his music began with Thriller. There are a lot of records at our house that used to belong to my uncle. I think it I was in 4th grade when I first heard that album... yes, I'm a late bloomer. It wasn't until much later when I started to look for and get the albums on CD. I acquired today's album on a high school band trip to New Orleans. I got that along with an Earth, Wind, and Fire album.

While I'm a fan of Michael, my sister is an even bigger fan than me. When Jackson died, my sister bought a lot of memorabilia. As for me, I'm set with the one poster I have of him. By the way, I'm only looking at the albums he did in his adult years. While I know he did stuff at Motown in his youth, I want to look at the work he did in his prime and later years.

Michael Jackson's Off The Wall was released in 1979. Jackson even wrote two songs for the album. It was pretty much a hit from the start. The album got all-around positive reviews. Five singles were released from the album. The album also helped Jackson score another Grammy in 1980. Does the album deserve the praise it got? I could answer that now, but I'll wait for later.

Graphic Novels: Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 4 - Legacy

Well, it's another day and another look at Spider-Man in the Ultimate Universe. It's been a while since I've looked at the Wall-Crawler, so I'm gonna try to make up for that. Today's volume of the series contains issues #22-#27. The creative team is still the same. Brian Michael Bendis is writing, Mark Bagely is pencilling, and Art Thibert is inking. As you can tell by the cover, this is going to be nuts.

SYNOPSIS
Everything is going well for Peter. He's not being hated on as Spider-Man anymore and his relationship is MJ is going well. He may be grounded, but it can't all be good, can it? Things liven up as Harry Osborne returns to school after all of the stuff that happened to him in the first volume. Now you know this might go downhill. Norman Osborn is also back and alive and he wants to see Peter for some reason. In Osborn's office, Norman reveals himself (literally) to be the Green Goblin and that he also knows Peter's secret. We also find out that he has put Harry under deep hypnotherapy in order to forget the truth. Let's say that Peter isn't doesn't handle the news well.

Tales From the 50 Cent Bin! - Superman #1

Well, it looks like I’m stepping back into the world of Superman. Since Robocop is coming out this week, I thought I would try to see if I had an issue that featured a cyborg. While Vic Stone (Cyborg from the Teen Titans) was too obvious, I thought I would go with another cyborg: Metallo. For those who don’t know, Metallo is one of Superman’s deadliest foes. He’s a cyborg who carries a heart of kryptonite, a substance that’s deadly to Superman. Today’s issue is Superman #1, and no, it’s not the Perez/Merino one. This is the Post-Crisis Superman fresh off of Man of Steel from 1986. Hey, I’m looking at a reboot when another reboot’s coming out… Cool!

The writer and penciller is John Byrne. If you don’t know already by looking at this blog, you can tell that Byrne is one of my favorite classic artists. I don’t know about his current stuff, but his classic stuff from Marvel and DC is pretty awesome. The inker is Terry Austin who is one of Byrne’s regular inkers. He’s inked with Byrne on books like Uncanny X-Men and this book. He’s also inked a lot of stuff for DC over the years. Well, let’s see what happens to Superman as he goes up against this terrible-dressing robot for the first time
